F-2 Dependents

If you have F-2 dependents, they must also maintain their legal status. They can study part-time in certain programs, but they are not permitted to work.

Loss of F-1 Status

  • Maintaining your status is about following a set of key guidelines. Violating any of these can lead to the loss of your F-1 status and benefits like employment authorization.

  • If your visa is revoked or your SEVIS record is terminated, you may be subject to removal and/or detention. In this situation, it's crucial to seek the advice of a reputable immigration attorney. To prepare for this meeting, you should download and document all your relevant immigration history, including your SEVIS record, all your Forms I-20 and notes, and your I-94 and travel history. You should also keep digital copies of your passport, visas, and any EAD cards you have.
